Cold lists still work in Indonesia, just badly. Here is what changes when a sales team starts from public buying conversations instead of a purchased database.

Most outbound teams in Indonesia still start from a list. Someone buys a database, filters it by industry and headcount, and the SDR works down the rows. It produces meetings, but the ratio is punishing and it gets worse every quarter as inboxes fill up.

The list is the wrong starting point

A purchased list tells you a company exists. It does not tell you whether anyone there is currently unhappy with their vendor, hiring for a role that implies a new tool, or asking peers for a recommendation. Those are the moments when a reply is likely, and none of them are visible in a static database.

Public conversation is where that context lives. Founders complain about tooling on LinkedIn. Operators ask for alternatives in community groups. Job posts describe stacks. None of it is private, and most of it goes unread by the teams who would benefit most.

What changes when you start from a signal

The first thing that changes is volume. A signal-led list is smaller, often dramatically so, and teams find that uncomfortable at first. The second thing that changes is the opening line. You are no longer introducing a category, you are responding to something the buyer already said out loud.

The third change is timing discipline. Signals decay. A hiring post is useful for a couple of weeks and worthless after a quarter. Teams that win with this approach build a habit of acting inside days, not at the start of the next campaign cycle.
