Form fills are a comfortable metric. They are countable, they arrive with an email address, and they fit neatly into a funnel diagram. They also arrive late.
A form is the end of a process, not the start
By the time someone completes a demo request, they have usually read comparisons, asked two or three peers, and shortlisted vendors. You are entering a conversation that has been running for weeks, in a position you did not choose.
The buyers you would most want to reach behave differently. They ask a question in a community, get three answers, and pick one. They never touch your site until after the decision is effectively made.
Where those buyers are visible instead
Public posts asking for recommendations, complaints about an incumbent tool, and job listings that name a stack are all readable in the open. They are noisier than a form fill and considerably earlier, which is the trade worth making.
The practical move is not to abandon forms. It is to stop treating them as the only entry point, and to give the sales team a second queue built from conversations that are still open.
